Capital’s Summertime Ball 2010

Well, yesterday (Sunday 6th June) saw Wembley Stadium & Capital FM collide in a BIG way! It was by far one of the best concerts this Summer will see!

I was slightly sceptical once they had announced all of the performers – it seemed slightly ‘lacklustre’ with the number of acts that were set to take the stage. I went to last year’s Ball and they had a good large number of acts & even had the legend that is Lionel Richie performing! Of course, I was proved wrong…

This year’s Ball was slightly shorter than last year’s but that was a good shout because by the end of last year’s, having not smoked a cigarette for hours & standing on your feet, dancing for all that time, it made me slightly cranky!

The queuing this year was alot less organised in my opinion, but maybe we have Bieber to blame? Even though I am an avid Belieber, I had children pushing and shoving in the queue and I was ready to ground their asses! Some of them have no manners! Last year, it was all in a line & everyone just strolled in… I guess 70,000 people suddenly succumb to ‘Bieber Fever!’

To be fair, this year was actually AMAZING though – I had an immense time, and Im pretty sure every other person did!

The show kicked off with Usher – which was just incredible – he performed a few of his previous hits, which all the younger Bieber fans didnt appreciate or understand, but like we cared! We were standing there doing our thunder claps to “Yeah!” – He then performed his latest single “OMG” which was, just, OH MY GOSH! Will.i.am came out for guest vocals and then JUSTIN BIEBER came out on stage to jump around which got the whole crowd going even more! It was amazing.

All I can honestly remember was that Usher opened & Rihanna closed the show – all the other acts in between are just a fuzzy blur of GOOD TIMES in between – but what an amazing blur they were (Yes, Im saying the word amazing alot – but thats what it was!)

Jaaaaason Derulooo performed really well – he had good choreography & sung live – minus the slight wardrobe malfunction where he couldnt get his jacket off – he gave a really good crowd pleasing performance! Especially when he actually tore off his vest! Erm, Hello Abs, lovely to meet you!

Dizzee Rascal, now, that was just BONKERS. He performed last year, and it rained – he performed this year, and what happened? It rained – but to be fair, it makes his whole set alot more enjoyable! Nothing beats jumping up & down to some Dizzee in the rain.

I can’t forget that Florence came out to do “You Got The Dirtee Love” which actually was one of the best performances of the entire day!

Everyone went crazy!

I honestly think she was the best surprise guest to appear on stage!

Ellie Goulding came out (at some point, I cant remember when?) and performed Starry Eyed – it was all very brief, she didnt interact with the audience like some of the other artists, she just sang the one song and walked off? Maybe she’s more of a Radio 1 fan…

Then appeared ‘The Wanted’ – Ok, so, yes, the odd member might be a slight piece of eye candy, but what the hell were they doing there? Who are they?! I kind of phased out throughout their performance even though it was good, but I just didnt care enough to dance about and try to know the words – I was too busy looking out for my friends to return with the drinks!

Alexandra Burke was there – I enjoy her music, but I’m not a big fan of her as a person – I think her ego might be slightly bigger than the Empire State Building. She just irritates me, a lot. So at this point I walked off to get some more booze. Her vocals were really flawless though!

Tinie Tempah – Ahhhh! YES YES YES! That performance was too enjoyable! I was fist pumping Jersey Shore style, beating up that beat, I even (accidently) threw my friends camera at some woman & possibly broke her skull? I apologised. Im surprised she didnt ‘Pass Out.’ (See what I did there?)

Chip Diddy Chip, Mr. Munk, Munk, C’s Up & all that jazz was really good! He brought out Esmee Denters as a special guest to perform Until You Were Gone! It went without a hitch – he did, at one point, ask who wanted his Chipmunk tshirt that he was wearing – he proceeded to “strip off” a la Jaaason Derulooo, but seeing as Chip doesnt quite have the body for it, he kept his vest on. Bless.

I do love me some Munk though! He did really well & got us lot jumping! He’s cute!

Pixie Lott appeared at one point – she sang well, but I was just slightly underwhelmed by it all.. I found myself drifting in and out of consciousness but I like her, she just wasnt as good as some of the other performers! All the Pixie wannabe’s liked her though; with their back-combed quiffs, laced tops & high waisted skirts!

JLS came out towards the end, got us “putting our hands up” for Everybody In Love, and body popping for Beat Again. I wasnt hung up on The Club is Aaaaliiiiive, with the sound of muuuuusic until yesterday! I’ll be getting that on iTunes me thinks. Obviously Marv & Aston enjoyed the high pitched screams when they took their jackets off – I felt bad for Oritse & JB – they dont get enough attention! Ill have some JB anyday!

Cheryl Cole: Nation’s sweetheart, Lesbian’s wet dream, The best thing that will ever happen to Ashley Cole – She did so well! I think what made her performance so good was, not only the perfect routines & the good vocals (yes, she sang live) but it was the fact she’s been through alot these past few weeks but still got on with it & had to sing about fighting for love. Derek (her dancer) came out for Parachute – they are soooo getting it on. She did her cover of ‘Fireflies’ which was better than what she performed at Radio 1. All in all 10/10 for Chezza!

Ke$ha was there – I love that drunken mess! She ‘Blah Blah Blah’d all around that stage, she swore infront of children, she ruffled her feathers (yep, she had some fugly feathery accessory on around her shoulders) but it was what you’d expect from her! Got the crowd going, she had me Tik Tok’ing, liking people’s beards, it was good.

Scouting for Girls did a good set and brought the indie music to the Ball – it felt quite R&B influenced this year – which, isnt a problem for me, but they are really good and the frontman sung really well! He had us all singing along! I gotta say though, he’s so “luv-er-lee” ;)

Rihanna was good – only she would be able to pull off such a vile hair-do, she performed quite a large set & sang Hard, Te Amo, Russian Roulette, Disturbia, Dont Stop The Music, Umbrella & Rude Boy – Ironically, people whacked out their umbrellas for Umbrella! Wish I had brought mine, I was jealous of the people with their ironic behaviour! Very very good – It was a good way to end such a great day!

Now, last but, OH MY GOD, not least – JUSTIN BIEBER!!!! I think he was definately in my Top 3 Favourite Performances! He performed within that “blurry/good times” period I was on about earlier – He is just so cute! Yes, it’s legal for me to say that – He’s 16!

Everyone sang along to Baby, the screams from all us Beliebers was insane – I think people in China may have heard it! Sean Kingston came out and they tore it up with Eenie Meenie Minie Mo, Catch a bad chick by her toe.. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!

I actually cant wait for his concert! I WILL get backstage and meet him at some point!! I dont care what sort of strings I have to pull or how many sexual favours I have to perform – it will happen!

I did have a void in my heart though – I was dying for Katy Perry to be announced – California Gurls is such a tune & a bit of Snoop Doggy Dogg cant hurt! But oh well, you win some, you lose some!

All in all (and I think I mentioned everyone there?) it was an incredible day and topped last year by a mile.

This is definately an annual thing for me – It gets better & better (either that, or I get drunker & drunker) but £56.00 for a ticket to see a bunch of amazing acts ain’t too shabby!

Well Done Capital! Thankyou!

Here’s the mashup of all the artists performing – it was played during breaks between acts! DJ Earworm’s got talent! You can check out some of his other mashups on Youtube.
